UNDERWATER VIDEO MONOPOD:
This is a Do-It-Yourself low cost and fun project
Perfect for shallow under water digital cameras with video
Uses low cost plastic plumbing parts available at most
Allows for underwater video up to 12 feet deep
Adjustable buoyancy allows for vertical jib style clips
Constructed of 3 sections to allow for easy transport and depth adjustment
COST for 1/2" pipe construction is about $25
Snorkeling is a lot of fun and often adventurous when the water has high
visibility and your floating over a shallow coral reef. Video with an underwater
digital camera is catching on, but if your camera stays near the surface the video will
be very unsatisfactory. Attach your camera to this monopod and you will
get down to the amazing sea life action as shown in this demonstration video below.
The best underwater video is captured near
the ocean floor close to the coral beds.
This simple monopod positions an underwater camera horizontal and near the
ocean floor for the ultimate video capture.

DIY SNORKEL-POD CONSTRUCTION GUIDE
1/2" PVC PIPE works well for
small cameras like the Panasonic LUMIX TS20. For larger cameras 1" PVC pipe
will provide more buoyancy.
Alternatively you can use pipe foam insulation added
to the 1/2" pipe top section for more buoyancy. I suggest that you
use electrical tape to attach foam to the upper pipe section below the
The galvanized steel
mending plate can be replaced by a small plastic (Lexan) plate with 2 1/4"
holes for extended life.
We really enjoyed working with this simple
idea and creating some incredible sea life video with a very cost effective
camera. We want to foster the development of a community of users of this
monopod concept. Please send us your comments and YouTube videos and we
will post them here.
The ALZO SNORKEL-POD is not a product.
This is a do-it-yourself fun
project. If you enjoy snorkeling and making videos this project is low
cost, easy to build and really fun to use.
