***** (5 Stars) Excellent and Versatile Light
Product: ALZO 790 Bright LED DIMMABLE Video Light 5600K
by Richard Crowe from Escondido, CA

Pros: lightweight, reasonably priced, reasonably powerful, soft light with diffuser, powered by Sony or AA batteries, light is variable in intensity

Cons: None that I can think of...

Best Uses: Outdoor fill, indoor main light

Describe Yourself: Occasional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is an excellent, low cost, lightweight on-camera video light. I use it with the provided diffuser and I was pleased at how soft the light is but, also that the light was relatively powerful. I especially like the fact that it can be used with six AA batteries as well as with the Sony battery. The Sony battery provides enough power of a decent time of shooting but, I didn't need to purchase a second Sony battery because I have a number of Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable batteries which work quite well as backups.
I purchased the metal shoe as recommended by Alzo and I am glad that I did, It is solid and holds the light very securely.
I was a U.S. Navy cinematographer many-many years ago and I would have virtually sold my soul for a light this lightweight and versatile - especially with daylight color balance and very little heat.
I wish it had a remote used to turn it on and off and to adjust the intensity. That way I could attach the remote to the handle of my camera support and turn the light on and off / adjust intensity without taking my hand off the camera support. This is a very minor thing and would probably boost the price by several times if it were possible at all.

***** (5 Stars) Tremendous VALUE!
Product: ALZO 790 Bright LED DIMMABLE Video Light 5600K
by JR Jordan from Texas

Pros: quality, cost

Cons: no barn doors

Best Uses: use on camera or off

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Awesome light. Does exactly what it is supposed to do. It does it well, and at a fraction of the competitors cost. Solid construction. The shoe mount is plastic and Alzo recommends using the sturdier metal upgrade, but I have not had a problem with it. If you mistreat your cameras or shoot in harsh environments then maybe get the metal mount, but the plastic one works just fine.

The indoor and warming filters are correctly balanced. I do wish this unit came with barn doors though. That is my only complaint.

As a filmmaker I am not into spending money, I am into making quality films and use WHAT WORKS. The Alzo light described above fits that requirement perfectly.

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone seeking a dependable quality "on camera light"; can be used off camera as well. Works great under a dashboard for indoor car scenes, etc. Very easy to hide and set up multiple lights.

Buy several. They are affordable! You will end up using them a lot!

***** (5 Stars) The best little camera light I've owned
Product: ALZO 790 Bright LED DIMMABLE Video Light 5600K
by Marty from NYC

Pros: Bright, dimmable, lightweight, and takes multiple power sources.

Cons: could use some doors or tiny egg create. and the color temp is slightly off.

Best Uses: All of the above

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Now here is A great little light that has proven itself time and time again and made itself part of my standard light kit. A cameraman for 20 some years I have built up a large collection of useless camera lights. I do quite a bit of red carpet shooting and on the street interviews, but I mostly do sit down interviews. I saw this ALZO 790 light at the DV Expo in NY this year and was impressed with it's brightness and I knew I had to have it. I ordered it with the works, the stronger bracket and Panasonic battery adapter, and it was still less expensive than most camera lights on the market and I can power it with my old Sony, Panasonic batteries as well as AA's. I now keep it with me at all times. It's long lasting and dimmable and I've used it not only as a camera light, but as a hair light, a kick light and even set light to add a bit of highlight to the background. In fact I believe with 3 or 4 of these lights you could almost have a complete travel lighting package. The best $100.00 I've spent in a long time.

***** (5 Stars) Out of the Box and On The Job
Product: ALZO 790 Dimmable LED Video Camera Light Power Kit
by Mike from United States

Pros: Weight, size, dimmer and battery life

Cons: I need one for my other cams.

Best Uses: Interview and candid shooting in open restaurant and bar scene

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

The light arrived as promised before I headed off for a shoot, where I really needed it. No way to set up lighting in the pub where I was shooting.

I charged the battery and loaded the onboard case with some Double A's. I never took the alkaline cells out, they were still going strong after four hours of shooting.

The dimmer control worked well, giving me exactly what I needed for varied shooting situations in a dim sport pub. Full brightness was seldom needed, once I got the hang of the output and got the cam set.

Any video shooter who doesn't have one of these is working too hard.

***** (5 Stars) switch on light
Product: video light 790
by Scott Turner from Louisville, KY

Pros: setup, ease of use, quick change of filters

Cons: light turns off very easily with switch

Best Uses: video interviews

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I did my first job with this light, it performed well, BUT the switch on the side of the light easily turns on. I packed the light in my checked bags, but when I arrived back home the light was on. It seems like the light had been accidently turned on while in the bag. It had been on so long that it melted the filter that was on it so bad that it cracked and broke it. I might suggest that one of two things be done to fix this problem. Have the switch a little harder to turn on or place of cover over the switch to prevent any accidental switching on of the light. The light performed well otherwize.

***** (5 Stars) Excellent product and even better customer service
Product: 790 LED video light with LP-E6 adapter
by Remedy Films from Clemson, SC

Pros: Bright. Dimmable. Light. Filters. Canon battery adapter.

Cons: Plastic housing and mount. LP-E6 adapter comes undone when you remove the battery

Best Uses: Event. Multi location shoots. Dark or dimly lit locations.

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I called and spoke with ALZO on the phone because I need my order immediately for the iPad 2 music video shoot we did. They helped me get the right product and got it here te next day. Great people to work with and for the price you can't beat this product. Having the canon LP-E6 battery adapter is amazing so all of our products use the same battery and charger. Love this light.

***** (5 Stars) GET ONE!
Product: ALZO 790 Dimmable LED Video Camera Light Power Kit
by Larry from Whittier, California

Pros: Does the job

Cons: Don't put the diffuser in your back pocket and then sit down

Best Uses:

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I just returned from an all day shoot, where I used my ALZO 790 most of the day for fill and primary light on about 1/2 the shots. In the month that I've had it, its become the primary light in my kit. I've used it on a documentary and two industrial shoots and have been amazed with its performance. I've had a chance to compare it with similar units from manufacturers with equal and higher prices. The 790's performance is equal to or better than any of them. And in terms of price, do your own comparisons and see how much you can keep in your bank account. And I must mention that when you need to call, there's a real person at the end of the phone who will respond to you immediately. What a pleasure! GET ONE! Your next thought will be: with three I can have a lighting kit in a lunch bag.

***** (5 Stars) Great handheld or camera mounted light
Product: ALZO 790 Dimmable LED Video Camera Light Kit
by Tom from Detroit, MI

Pros: Uses both a camera type battery or AA batteries, very inexpensive and puts out a ton of light

Cons: Sliding filters are easily cracked

Best Uses:

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is a great, much less expensive alternative to the more expensive battery operated lights out there. It's got a cold-shoe mount but I typically have someone handhold it next to the camera. Just got back from filming in a large, dark basement on a Canon 5d and this was the only light I used. It also comes with hard (slide style) color correction filters which are great.

***** (5 Stars) Good Value
Product: ALZO 790
by Andy from Los Angeles

Pros: Excellent light weight LED. Good performance at a lot less cost than more popular brands

Cons: Difficult to get the rechargeable battery in, seems to go in just a certain way which takes a little manipulation to figure out.

Best Uses:

Describe Yourself: Semi-Pro Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Used it only once and had excellent results.

*** (3 Stars) 790 LED Dimmable Camera Light
Product: ALZO 790 Dimmable LED Video Camera  Light w/ Panasonic Adaptor
by Cecil B. deMille

Pros: Great price, a lot of punch, very lightweight, and I have three options to power it.

Cons: Seems fragile due to lightweight plastic. Tilt angle keepers don't lock down super tight.

Best Uses: Run and gun on camera or in a studio as a back light or edge

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Very simply, this is an inexpensive dimmable LED camera light that puts out a lot of light. Unlike some other LED lights of this type, it seemed to be a little less spotty with a little more spread.

I bought an optional Panasonic shoe mount because it was recommended on the web page. The stock shoe mount fit, but it is made of cheap plastic. The Panny mount is metal.

The unit is very light because the whole thing is made of light-weight plastic that makes me a little nervous. It seems very fragile.

Best part is, besides running on six AA batteries, I bought the adaptor that allows me to use Panasonic camera batteries, and it also works with the AC power paddle that would run the camera on AC, which makes it nice for all day studio shoots used as a back light or edge light.

Overall, yes, it is not super beefy in design materials, but it cranks out the light. Besides, what do you want for $100? You can't afford not to have one at that price!

**** (4 Stars) Not bad for price
Product: 790L Dimmable LED Interview Light
by dspmpls from Minneapolis

Pros: light weight, inexpensive, versatile battery options

Cons: a little flimsy, doesn't pack especially well

Best Uses: Interview, location, run and gun

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Considering the price, this is a great little unit. It's light and doesn't feel super durable, but with care it will hopefully last a long time.
Love the versatile battery options, especially being able to use AAs in a pinch.

The hot shoe mount feels especially fragile -- I'd opt for the heavier duty option for this. All things being equal, I'd also prefer a separate on/off switch and the dimmer (so you can come back to the same setting), and I wish the mount easily removed for better packing.

Still, $100 bucks -- c'mon. I'm looking forward to seeing how well this holds up over time.

***** (5 Stars) LOVE IT
Product: LED Video Light
by JR Davis from Nashville TN

Pros: Great Value
Great Battery life

Cons: Perhaps a heaver plastic case or rubber case in the event of dropping - I have the feeling that it would shatter if dropped

Best Uses: Interviews - back lighting

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Have you ever had an on camera light that put out way too much light - Well this is the light - The great thing is that you can adjust the light depending on what you are shooting. I found it to be a great value - Have never run out of power - and will never be caught in a no light situation again -

**** (4 Stars) Very good product for the money
Product: ALZO 790 Dimmable LED Video Camera Light Kit
by Sven Brogren from Chicago

Pros: lots of light, long battery life

Cons: a little bulky, plastic diffusion filter does not do much

Best Uses: Events

Describe Yourself: Occasional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

It's a great light. I use it for shooting with my Canon 7D dlsr. It puts out a lot of light and has better than average throw. I used the sony camcorder battery it lasts 4 - 4.5 hours before it starts fading. It includes a plastic diffusion, cto and minus green filter. The diffusion filter does not do much, i'd tape on some 216 or grid cloth. The cto is nice.

**** (4 Stars) Excellent...works as promised
Product: ALZO 790 Dimmable LED Video Camera Light Kit
by doublejnyc from New York, NY

Pros: very bright, great battery options

Cons: no barn doors

Best Uses: dark, run-and-gun situations

Describe Yourself: Professional Videographer

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This product is excellent. Very bright and works great with the Sony batteries. I was turned onto this product (and company) by Jem Schofield in his blog (thec47.com).

Customer service is great too. And you cannot beat the price.

My only tiny beef is no barn-doors like on the 770L, but, I'm sure I could rig some black wrap to do the same.

Also, since digital cameras are so small these days I highly recommend getting some sort of bracket. This light is way to big to go directly on a DSLR or my tiny HV30.
